Saker Sportscars recently enjoyed a successful day of testing at Oulton Park, last Friday. Tim Wheeldon attended with his Saker to give the car its first shake-down and run his gearbox in, whilst Steve Harris was carrying out a general test.
Meanwhile, ex BTCC racer Eugene O’Brien, tested the demo Saker, with a view to running one, or maybe two cars this season.
O’Brien said: “I drove about five laps in JPR’s demo at the Oulton Track Day recently. My first impressions were that it inspired confidence straight away and it was deceptively quick, perhaps due to the low revving Subaru engine.”
He added: “I hadn’t driven a car with a sequential gearbox for quite a while, but the Saker’s box worked perfectly, so I had no problems with gear changes. I was out on wet tyres on a drying track, so I couldn’t gain a true feel for the Saker’s handling. However, it seemed to be well balanced and great on direction changes at Oulton’s two chicanes.”
This now takes the demo to forty five hours of running faultlessly with only oil changes.
Pro driver Nigel Greensall has also tested the Saker and speaks highly of the sleek racer.
He said: “I have really enjoyed the tests I have done in the Saker. My first experience was in the wet at Oulton Park and the Saker instantly inspired a great deal of confi- dence. This meant that I could then relax and enjoy exploring the limits.”
He continued: “When on the limit, there is so much feel from the chassis, which results in the driver being at ease with the car sliding. The engine sounds great and has an excellent delivery of power, with a very low centre of gravity. This means that the Saker has wonderful handling. I can’t wait to be racing one!”
