Aussie Rules? Import a Holden for UK circuit racing?

Posted by Andrew Cliffe On March - 14 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

There are a number of race series which would accept the Vauxhall Monaro, the Antipodean muscle car.     Developed in Australia, and used extensively for racing over there, the Holden Monaro could be an alternative to the UK variant – if one were to import the right car.    There was really only cosmetic branding differences between the Holden and Vauxhall versions, and some would possibly say that the car should have remained a Holden.        The Monaro was also sold in the USA as the Pontiac GTO.

CarSales.com.au is the Australian version of AutoTrader and could be used to help find the right car.

5 Key Car Insurance Factors

Posted by Andrew Cliffe On February - 21 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

If you are looking for a way to save money on car insurance today, you are not alone. Car insurance is coverage you need to have in place if you drive, but nobody wants to pay for this coverage than is necessary. So just how can you save on car insurance today? Understanding the factors that affect your coverage can help you to locate possible areas of savings in your own policy. You can use a price comparison website to shop around for quotes, but you do want to be aware of how various factors play a role in your coverage rates, too.

Your Age
When it comes to car insurance rates, time can work in your favour as well as against you, too. Younger drivers often receive higher rates on their coverage because they are viewed as less experienced and more reckless on the road. Statistics do show that younger drivers get in more accidents than more experienced drivers, and the risk insurance take on by insuring younger drivers is passed on through your insurance rates. However, older drivers are also viewed as riskier to insure as well. As drivers age, factors such as decreased response time as well as vision and hearing issues become more of a factor with regards to driving safety. So senior drivers will find that their rates are higher than those adults who are middle aged.

Your Car
The vehicle you choose to drive plays a major role in your coverage amount as well. The horsepower of your engine is highly considered in rates, as those with a higher horsepower engines do tend to drive faster. Further, smaller cars that are zippier to drive are involved in more accidents statistically than larger cars. In addition, other factors such as the value of the car and repair costs on a car are considered in determining rates. Some vehicle factors such as safety equipment may provide you with discounts on your rate. Safety equipment like air bags, anti-lock brakes, and more will often qualify your vehicle for a lower rate.

Your Gender
Statistically, women are viewed as safer drivers than men. Because of this, women currently receive slightly lower rates almost across the board than men do. However, there is some indication that this may change in the future and that both genders will be viewed equally.

Your Experience
Insurance companies will look at your driving history when calculating your insurance rates. Factors such as speeding citations or other traffic citations as well as accidents and claims on a policy will be taken into account. Generally, a driving history is reviewed only for the last few years of time. So if your record today has a few blemishes on it, you can take extra care to drive more safely and obey traffic laws. Over time, your current driving record will be disregarded, and you may qualify for lower rates based on an improved driving record.

The Type of Insurance
When you apply for auto insurance, you will have the ability to set your coverage limits. In some cases, you may be able to opt for no liability coverage as well. You can also adjust your deductible to affect your rates. There are minimum coverages you need to have in place, and you don’t want to set your deductible too high so that filing a claim when needed becomes unaffordable for you. However, if you are considering options for saving on your car insurance, adjusting the coverage in place and the deductible do provide you with flexibility to enjoy greater savings.

As you can see, some factors that affect your car insurance rates cannot be altered, such as your age or your gender. Other facts, like your coverage, your vehicle, and your driving record are under your control. If you are consider options for to save money on car insurance, consider how some of these factors can be adjusted to save you money on your insurance rates.

The Top 5 High Performance Production Cars Of All Time

Posted by Andrew Cliffe On November - 24 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

With car buffs, it’s the quickest way to start a rousing conversation. Whether you’re on the lot browsing used cars for sale, spending a day at the racetrack or eyeing a sports car at a trade show, just ask those around you which cars are the top-performing vehicles of all time. Luckily, we know a thing or two about acceleration, horsepower and manoeuvring. The absolute best cars are not just vehicles; they are works of art that can bring all of these design and performance aspects together seamlessly.

So what are the top five high performance production cars of all time? Here are our picks.

Dodge Viper
Created by Chrysler and tweaked by the makers of Ferrari, the Dodge Viper is a hybrid, but probably not the kind you’re thinking of. Dreamed up as part race car, part sports car, the Viper makes the high performance vehicle attainable for all. It has been as revered for its good looks as it has for its performance; in any snapshot of popular culture, the Viper is never out of place. It has made history by being one of the very first automobiles to sport the power of 10 cylinders under the bonnet, and the Viper has undergone numerous changes in design and performance since it first debuted in the early 1990s.

BMW 335i
Perched at the top of BMW’s 3 Series is the 335i, one of the most popular performance cars in the world. Sporting all-wheel drive and unparalleled fuel economy, this compact executive car is in its fifth generation of design and just keeps getting better. The 335i is the top-selling car for the German automaker, proving that it is as reliable as it is luxurious.

Audi TT RS
A relative newcomer to the German-made line, the TT RS debuted in 2009, to much excitement over its six-speed manual drive performance and streamlined yet exotic body definition. True Audi enthusiasts will find this model similar to the German car manufacturer’s Quattro, which became popular in the 1980s. For all of its vintage design, however, the Audi TT RS still provides a very modern all-wheel drive and a nimble road performance.

Subaru Impreza STI
It’s no luxury vehicle and might not even be eye-catching at first glance, but the Subaru Impreza represents the very best in Japanese automobile innovation. This modest-looking sedan pulls a classic bait-and-switch with a box engine that can shift 2.5 litres at once and a braking system that can stop on a dime. If you’re looking for acceleration capacity, you would be hard-pressed to find a similarly priced car (the STI rings up at about £20,000) that can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than five seconds.

Nissan GT-R
Any car that is known as Godzilla in the auto world has to be impressive, right? The Nissan GT-R is like an experiment in driving perfection, and it should be. It draws on the design and performance standards that Nissan carefully honed in its parent model, Nissan Skyline, from which GT-R inherited its 6-cylinder engine. And with all-wheel drive and 530 horse power, it is proving itself as the rightful heir to Nissan’s auto performance throne.

What’s your dream car? Make a list at Netcars, where you can compare prices, fuel economy and mileage all in one place.

Modified Motorbikes and Insurance

Posted by Andrew Cliffe On February - 18 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS
Many motorcycle fanatics love their motorbikes and love improving and developing the look and the function of them. However this, can lead to a particular motorcycle being a great attraction to a thief. This can also mean that if the motorcycle were to breakdown or the modifications of the motorcycle were to break, it would cost a lot more money to repair or replace the bike to its existing state. Not having insurance means you are not covered if anything is to go wrong, it means there will me no help whatsoever from insurance companies with finance if you are to need to replace anything on your motorcycle. It is extremely wise that if you should own a motorcycle and you are keen biker that you invest in motorcycle insurance as a way of protecting yourself for the future.

Furthermore with modified motorcycles it is recommended that you should find the right type of insurance, insurance for modified bikes. This is because many motorcycles insurance companies offer basic insurance cover that will only pay out for a standard motorcycle, rather then one that you yourself have paid extra to be modified. This, however is not a lost cause as searching online or in advertisement will lead you to the specialist modified motorcycle insurance companies where buy you can state all modifications and make sure they are all covered under one policy. Carole Nash offer motor bike insurance for all types of bike, perfect for every rider. There are a number of reported stories of motorcyclists who have claimed pay outs for the insurance put on their modified bikes, but did not disclose any information about the modifications that have been made, thus not getting any such pay out. Find an appropriate broker or motorcycle insurance company that specialises in motorcycles and knows about all the modifications that can be potentially fitted to a motorcycle is very wise. Modifications such as upgrades on exhausts, air filters, crash protectors or even very expensive and detailed bodywork can then be disclosed under your insurance policy. Thereby if any such accident occurs you are able to be paid out the appropriate amount that will cover the amount of work and money you had initially put in upon modifying your motorcycle.
