West-Tec sign Alex Lynn for European F3 Open Winter Series

Posted by Andrew Cliffe On February - 9 - 2012

Alex Lynn will join the returning Luca Orlandi as Team West-Tec’s line up for the inaugural European Open Formula 3 Winter Series.

Alex, the 18 year old rising British star, will wear the coveted #1 for the reigning European Formula 3 Open Champions, and will join Orlandi as he returns to the team for 2012.

The first meeting will be at Portimao on 16/17 February followed up by Paul Ricard on 2/3 March.

Both drivers will be in action in the established Dallara F308 cars, the British team operating these alongside the F312 cars currently undergoing development.

Lynn is the reigning Formula Renault UK Champion, and a 2011 McLaren Autosport BRDC Award finalist, and is taking the opportunity to prepare ahead of his British Formula 3 campaign.

Luca finished third in the Copa F306 in 2011, and will now step up to the F308 that will be the Copa mainstay for the next four seasons. As the highest returning Copa driver, and also the team being the Copa Champions as well as overall, he will carry the #31 on his car this season.

John Miller, Team West-Tec F3: When GT Sport announced the Winter Series, we decided that we would only be interested in doing it properly, and with the intention of trying to win it.

Alex is a superb young prospect and we are delighted he will race with us. If this helps him in his preparation for his British F3 season, then all the better.

Luca also wanted to take the chance to get some race experience in the new to him F308, so we are very pleased that he will be able to join us as well.

We decided early on to concentrate on the F308s, preferring to work on the new F312 chassis separately. After the winter series we will then have a concentrated pre-season test programme with both the F308s and F312s before the main season starts at the end of April.

It is possible we might race a third F308 at Paul Ricard, although we have to decide on that.

Alex Lynn: Formula 3 is my programme for this year, and Team West-Tec came highly recommended. This is a good opportunity for me to get some additional experience at the start of the season.

Luca Orlandi: I am very happy to be getting back in the car and can’t wait to get going! Portimao is a fantastic circuit and I am really looking forward to going to Paul Ricard as well.
